Keytime Motorsports let me ride a new Husqvarna 150 with a Craig Hayes tune at the Byron hare scramble.
This is one screaming little power house! Excellent motor just kept pulling and revving on the moto section. The light weight chassis was super fun to throw around on the tight course. I really enjoyed this bike and am very thankful that Craig and Keytime gave me the opportunity to ride!

It has been a crazy up and down season so far. Which is why updates haven’t been regularly added. Don’t worry though… big things coming in the near future!

3 Hour Moose Racing Ice Enduro

25 01 2011

The first race of the year was all new for me. A 3 hour test with a team of riders added new challenges to the racing… Did I mention its January and we are on the ICE!!

The Moose Racing 3 Hour Ice Enduro was held on Lake Sherwood near Neilsville, WI. Myself, my uncle Chris and Joe Barr were teaming up on Chris’s mint 07 Kawasaki KX450. Joe was a big help having raced on the ice before he knew what to expect and what was going on.

The Tractor!!

We decided to put me on first as I didn’t mind riding in a crowd off the start. So when my good friend and race promotor John Strangfeld raised the green flag the KX came to life and we were in for one heck of a race… I came out of the first corner second and concentrated on staying smooth for 30min arond the very twisty 4 mile course. Nearing the end of the first 30min I managed to real in our class leader and pass him before coming into the pits to change riders.

Now it was Chris’s turn to ride the course and get a taste of the ice enduro. He went out and turned some smooth and consistent laps finishing up the first hour of the race. With Chris coming into the pits I awaited with fuel while Joe was ready to jump on and throw down some fast laps. But as we fueled the bike we seen oil coming from the valve cover gasket. After checking the bike nothing was loose but wait… The crankcase vent was frozen shut and building pressure… with a simple reroute Joe was out on course.

Adding fuel as Joe climbs on to show his speed.

WOW! I never had the opertunity to see Joe rid a flat track before he retired… But he flies on the ice too! After throwing down his same lap tiimes from practice on a torn up course me and chris couldn’t believe joe was able to stay on that pace his whole ride!

Joe thowing the 450 around!

After the first half of the race we decided to switch up the order. Chris jumped back on to put down some solid laps before the track got real rough. After 2 strong laps on his third lap the bike really started fighting him. So to stay off the gound he pulled in early and I was ready to push it on the rough ice!

Chris putting together consistent laps

When I jumped back on as soon as I hit the first corner I knew it wasn’t just rough ice! The rear tire was all over the place. It felt like a flat but under smooth acceleration it was good. So instead of trying to charge and push as I had planned, I went out and tried to stay smooth. I put in my 5 laps and handed the bike to Joe to bring it home!
After Joe rode the final session, we found out we did have a flat tire as he thought the clutch was going and tried to ride it smooth to the finish. But after finding it was just a flat and no harm done we were all smiles! It was an awesome day of racing! And we all agreed it was a blast and plan to attend next year.
Thanks to all my support this year: Jays Power Center, Raintree Window Cleaning, Sletten Pest Management, Moose Racing, Parts Unlimited, Scott USA, EVS, FMF, IMS and Victory Circle Graphix. Also thanks to Chris, my uncle and mechanic for letting me and Joe beat on his 450 on the ice. This was a great start for the 2011 season!
